Objectives

Safety First Shooting Association is a 501C4 non-profit corporation which operates the River Oaks Range on private property. Shooting at the range is a privilege enjoyed by our paying members and their guests. We are dedicated to the following goals:

· To educate the general public as to the responsibilities and obligations connected with owning and using firearms and related items.

· To educate the general public in effective safety procedures and methods in the handling, storage, transportation and use of firearms, related equipment and supplies.

· To make these educational opportunities more easily available to under-served segments of the population, including but not limited to, women, youth, and the handicapped.

· To promote and provide outreach firearms safety training in various venues, including but not limited to, schools, churches and synagogues, youth groups and service organizations.

· To create, acquire, publish and disseminate educational books, pamphlets, brochures, newsletters and research papers, as well as audio, video and computer based materials, pertaining to shooting, firearms and related items.

· To offer courses of study that may be required to qualify for permits or licenses, including but not limited to hunting licenses and concealed carry permits.

· To offer hands-on instruction in the safe and proper use of firearms for various purposes, including but not limited to home and self-defense, hunting, informal shooting, and competition.

· To sponsor special events encouraging participation in shooting by women, men, girls and boys as individuals, families, teams, or groups.

· To promote shooting as a traditional American pursuit, that teaches discipline, responsibility, and sportsmanship, exercises both the mind and the body, and can provide a lifetime of enjoyment and enrichment.
 

Membership

General: The Safety First Shooting Association operates River Oaks Range to provide instruction and training in the safe handling and use of firearms and to allow members to become more proficient with firearms.

Membership Requirements: Applicants shall be admitted to membership upon acceptance of a completed Safety First Membership application, payment of the first annual dues, and successful completion of the range orientation and safe firearms handling demonstration. Currently memberships are closed until the revisions to the membership applications process, and requirements are revised to the new standards for 2011.  For now, Safety First encourages you to review our Calendar of Events and join us in our training program if it meets your needs.

As of January 2009 a motion was passed by the River Oaks Range (Safety First Shooting Association) Board of Directors that all new members as of 2009 MUST BE A MEMBER OF THE NATIONAL RIFLE ASSOCIATION (NRA).

Member’s Responsibility: All Safety First Shooting Association members must:
· Ensure that all shooters and spectators sign a Hold Harmless agreement before any shooting event.
· Follow all firearm safety procedures.
· Report any unsafe conditions to the Board of Directors or Association Officers.
· Assume full responsibility for the conduct of his or her guest.
· Any violator will be denied shooting privileges for the day and may forfeit membership to the Safety First Shooting Association.

Membership Fee: Membership fee for the Safety First Shooting Association is:
· Adults 18 years and older $55.00 per person. Membership is annual May 1 to April 30 of each calendar year (considered April to April).
· Minors under 18 years of age may enjoy the privileges of non-voting membership status at no charge when accompanied by their paid parent or guardian. Minors must be under supervision of parent or guardian at all times to fire at the range.

Alcoholic Beverages and Drugs: No Safety First Shooting Association member or guest may consume alcoholic beverages or drugs (including prescription or over-the-counter medications which may cause drowsiness or impairs judgment) before or during any live fire. Any violator will be denied shooting privileges for the day and may forfeit membership to the Safety First Shooting Association.

Smoking: There is no smoking allowed at the River Oaks Range or on any of the ranch property where the range is located.
