California Hunter Education

In a continued effort to reduce firearm accidents, the State of California requires all first time resident hunters, regardless of age, to complete hunter education training or pass a comprehensive equivalency test before purchasing a hunting license.

Atwater 2012 Hunter Ed Class Schedule

There are 4 Traditional Hunter Education classes held at the Atwater Community Center. All classes are 3 days, a Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The Thursday and Friday classes are 6:00pm to 9:30pm. The Saturday class is 9am to 1pm held here at River Oaks Range and consist of field simulations and live fire exercises. Class Fees are $10.00. The dates are as follows:

On-Line Course Alternatives

Home Study / On-line Classes approved by the California Department of Fish and Game to satisfy the classroom portion of the education requirements for hunter education certification are available for a fee. Upon completion of the course you will receive an On-line Course Completion Voucher. You MUST then attend a 4 hour “Follow Up” course to complete the program and receive your certificate. This “Follow Up” course is available at the Atwater Community Center on the 2nd Thursday of each month. Again, you must pre-register by emailing Sandy Rahn at the Atwater Community Center.

Certain individuals are restricted or prohibited from possessing firearms, ammunition and/or dangerous weapons because of a court order or a prior conviction.   To participate in Hunter Education Training you must not be restricted or prohibited due to a court order, terms of probation, terms of parole, or violations of certain sections of law from possessing firearms, ammunition, and or dangerous weapons.
