Try different handguns and comparison shoot/shop for what YOU want - and then tell the other half what you will be getting for Christmas <grin>. Please do not bring your own handguns as we will provide the handguns and ammunition, eye and ear protection.
Guys, the Trap range will be open during this event for your entertainment, and yes the women can shoot trap as well. All shooters will need $5 per round of Trap. For safety purposes, please have your shotguns UNLOADED and they MUST be in a gun case, bag or rug. NO OPEN CARRY or your shotgun in the parking lot or across the range.
Bay 1 will be open for public shooting, no rifles or shotguns on Bay 1 other than .22LR. Cost is $5.

Month of December 2013 and January 2014 Trap Shoot
Trap Shooting dates for December are Saturday, the 21st at 8:00am and Tuesday, the 31st, 1 hour before Sunset to 10:00pm (Night Shoot) and Wednesday, January 1st, 2014 at 8:00am, Saturday, January 4th, 2014 at 8:00am and Saturday, January 18th, 2014 at 8:00am. The fee is $5.00 a round consisting of 25 clays. Guns and ammo are not supplied. You DO NOT have to be a range member for these trap events, families with children are encouraged to attend. Those under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian and everyone will be required to sign a release waiver. For safety purposes, please have your shotguns UNLOADED and they MUST be in a gun case, bag or rug. NO OPEN CARRY or your shotgun in the parking lot or across the range.
PLEASE NOTE THE FEE CHANGE BELOW FOR 2014
Due to a big increase in the cost of clays and the huge amount of clays used, it is with great regret to announce be must now charge the $5.00 per round for all adults and $3.00 for under 18 years of age trap shooters. It is a big dollar loss due to the price of clays and free is no longer affordable on normal trap days.
!! IF IT IS RAINING or RAIN IS IMMINENT, TRAP WILL BE CANCELED !!
IDPA “Style” Match for December
This month's match on Saturday the 21st, is our annual Charity Shoot. Every year in December all match fees and extra donations collected are put toward a good cause. This year all funds are going the Children's Ward of Mercy Hospital in Merced. Entrée fee for all shooters this month will be $20 with an optional side match for $5, plus any extra you wish to donate.
A note from this month's Match Director, Mark Edwards:
“The match will consist of 3 fun and challenging IDPA “style” stages (IDPA scoring and rules will apply, with the exception of - 3 magazines limit!, bring more if you have them. In keeping with the Christmas spirit “gamer” reloads ARE allowed. A “cover garment” will not be required for this match). There will be an optional all steel side match which will be run afterwards and there will be a small prize table and definitely a lot of fun.”
You need to be here at least by 8:30am to Sign-in, Pay Up and be Prepared for the Match. Our safety briefing and walk-through starts at 9:00am and shooting starts shortly afterwards. River Oaks Range or IDPA membership is not required to attend our matches. As always, women and those under 18 years of age shoot free and are highly encouraged to participate. For more information about IDPA, click the Midvalley Defensive Shooters - IDPA link on the left side of this page.
We don't usually advertise products for individuals on our website, but these Bench Rest Sand Bags manufactured by Tony Salvador are quickly becoming very popular among the shooters here at River Oaks Range. Our own training department has purchased a large quantity of these quality bags. Because we've been asked about them so many times, we decided to post info on these bags for Tony. Tea Party Straight Talk on KYOS 1480 Radio
David Thelen, a well know member here at River Oaks Range, is giving a series of interviews at KYOS about the need for firearms in our society. He states his purpose as follows:
"The people of the United States have been called to a "national discussion" about gun violence in the aftermath of Sandy Hook. Instead of focusing on an even-handed dialogue, the conversation lurched toward one thing: gun control/bans. It seems to me that the media and many leaders are stuck in sound bites that provide limited information about this important topic.
My interviews are an attempt to discuss the law and practical issues associated with the consequences of how we, as citizens, either renew or abandon something that even the United States Supreme Court recently concluded is "fundamental" to preserving our country's scheme of "ordered liberty" -- the Second Amendment. There are many ways to address Sandy Hook's varied issues, even guns, that are simply not being pursued or addressed in our "national discussion." If we skip this chance, we may miss our generation's opportunity to talk to our neighbors about the principles that animate liberty in a free country.
All Past, Present and Future Tea Party Straight Talk Audio Broadcast are now available on Voice of Merced. “Any slow connections or problems loading audio files on that link is not the fault of this website.”
***River Oaks Range Preamble ***
Safety First Shooting Association is a 501(c)4 nonprofit corporation which operates the River Oaks Range on private property. The Association was formed to promote Firearms Training and Safety to the Community. To this end we are organized to provide training opportunities and venues to support Firearms classes, public service events, various outreach programs to the general public, and educational opportunities related to the shooting sports. While we do operate a shooting range, our purpose is to provide education and training. Membership is not required to participate in the education and training opportunities presented by this Association. As an Association, Members are encouraged to attend any or all training’s they desire or have an interest in. All education and training opportunities take precedence over general range activities. While our intent is to keep class fees to a minimum, some course materials will have a small cost associated, although this may be alleviated by grants and donations to the education aims of the Association.
This Association is dedicated to the promotion of the shooting sports and firearms safety. Our membership provides specific training in the use of firearms and firearms safety, while conducting classes and events in several shooting sport disciplines for the general public and our community.
The range and all it’s activities are run by “VOLUNTEER” Range & Non-Range Members,Board Members and Staff
